Saint-Quirin ⇒ Giromagny
In this fourth section, we will be climbing and descending through the Vosges Mountains: a medium-high mountain range in northeastern France. This mountain range is about 250 kilometers long; the GR5 winds through it for about 266 kilometers. The Vosges Mountains have rounded peaks, called ‘ballons’ in French. We enter this mountain range at Saint-Quirin and via Barr, Sélestat and Cernay we’ll leave the mountains behind at Giromagny just above Belfort. The highest point is Grand Ballon at 1424 meters in the southern Vosges which we’ll reach in the second half of our trip trough this mountain range.
