A short but stunning first leg of our trip. We start at the most south-westerern point of mainland Europe: the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse. A nice place to start, this structure on the edge of the oceanfront cliffs, but renovation work has closed off much of the area, so we quickly set off eastwards.

The paths run between low vegetation, mostly bushes. Even though it's just February 1st, flowers can already be seen around us. We are treated to one stunning view of the cliffs and ocean after another. What a gorgeous area this is.... We take a break at the edge of the cliffs and enjoy being on the road again. It's fantastic!

The paths consist of sand, lots of stones and tree roots, so we need to watch our steps. After about seven kilometres, we reach a small paved road just above Sagres, which brings us back to the campsite, where we arrive after only 8,5 kilometers. The advantage of this short stage is that we have plenty of time to visit the old village of Sagres this afternoon.

A good, relaxing start of our new journey! We look forward to the next stages along this beautiful coast.
